Jesús Pintor Just

In 1989, he graduated with a degree in Biology from the Complutense University of Madrid and obtained a Ph.D. from the same university in 1993. He has spent several sojourns at foreign institutions such as Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany (1990), the Bogomoletz Institute in Kiev, Ukraine (1992) and University College London, in the United Kingdom (1994) (under a scholarship awarded by the Ramón Areces Foundation).

He is currently a senior lecturer at the Complutense University of Madrid in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology IV at the College of Optics and has full professor accreditation. Between 1990 and 1993 his research focused on the study of the presence of diadenosine polyphosphates in neurosecretory cells and nerve endings as well as a description of their receptors.

Currently his research is focused on the following lines:

  • Intraocular pressure - glaucoma (since 1998)
  • New substances for the treatment of dry eye (since 2000)
  • Effect of nucleotides and melatonin on corneal re-epithelialisation (since 2002)
  • Treatment of achondroplasia - dwarfism, (since 2003)


He has directed three doctoral theses and is currently directing three others. Dr. Pintor has published 113 articles in scientific journals indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI), has participated in 47 funded research projects and contracts and is the inventor of 13 patents.

  • Member of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy since 2005
  • Deputy director of Research at the College of Optics since 2006
  • "Honorary Young Lecturer" at the 10th Congress of the European Society for Neurochemistry (ESN), Jerusalem (Israel) (1994)
  • Winner of 2nd Madrid Region Competition for Spin-Off Ideas organised by Investigación MadrI+D in the area of biotechnology for the creation of a company. Title of the Project: "Assessment of drug research: at the service of other companies" (2004)
  • Winner of Runner-up Prize for Best Patent at the 4th Madrid Region Patent Competition. Title of the Patent: "Use of nucleotides and dinucleotides in the treatment of ocular surface infections" (2007)
