Research centres : Centro de Biología Molecular "Severo Ochoa". CSIC-Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Madrid)

César Jesús de Haro Castella

Scientific researcher of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa, CSIC-Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He is a graduate and Doctor in Chemistry from the University of Salamanca. For three years (1976-78), he worked in the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology (Nutley, NJ) under the direction of Dr. Severo Ochoa. He joined the CBMSO in January 1979.

He is head of the line: "Síntesis de Proteínas y su regulación en Eucariontes". His work has always centred on the study of control mechanisms of eukaryotic cell gene expression at the level of the translation process of their messenger ARN. In 2013 we created the Laboratorio de Traducción y Estrés, composed of three lines of research which had been separate until then, to investigate how eukaryotic cells reprogram their gene expression in response to several situations involving cell stress.

He is currently Director of the Instituto de Biología Molecular "Eladio Viñuela" (CSIC) and is Patron and General Secretary of the Fundación Carmen y Severo Ochoa.
