Abstract
The factors regulating the dynamics of chromatin play a key role in the detection, signalling and repair of lesions in the genome and, therefore, in maintaining genomic integrity. This project studies the epigenetic molecular mechanisms involved in the regulation and monitoring of meiotic recombination and the response to DNA damage in the mitotic cell cycle, with special emphasis on the role of specific histone modifications and chromatin remodelling complexes. To this end, the Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast is used as a study model. Given the evolutionary conservation that exists in the cell cycle checkpoints, yeast studies are relevant to the advancement of knowledge of the mechanisms that contribute to the maintenance of genetic integrity in higher eukaryotes.
