Abstract
Sepsis represents a worldwide health problem of the first magnitude. In Spain, mortality in the case of septic shock is unacceptably high, reaching 50-60%. However, there is no "gold standard" for its diagnosis. In this regard, the aim of this work is to characterize and analyze miRNAs in peripheral blood extracellular vesicles for their innovative and potential use as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker of clinical evolution in septic shock.
Main objective: Identification of miRNAs profiles in peripheral blood extracellular vesicles that are characteristic of septic shock and post-surgical non-septic shock.
Specific objectives:
- To establish a diagnostic algorithm with the ability to differentiate between post-surgical patients who develop septic shock from those who suffer NON-septic shock (diagnostic biomarker).
-To identify the profile of miRNAs in extracellular vesicles that predicts those post-surgical patients with septic shock who will progress to exitus 28 days after diagnosis (prognostic biomarker).
