José García Montalvo is Professor of Economics at Pompeu Fabra University. He is also a Research Professor at the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics and the IVIE.
José García Montalvo is Professor of Economics at Pompeu Fabra University. He is also a Research Professor at the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics and the IVIE. He holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University and a bachelor degree from the Universidad de Valencia. He was awarded the First National Prize for Undergraduate Studies in Economics (highest national GPA). He has worked as a consultant for the OECD, the European Union, the Inter American Development Bank and the World Bank among others. He has been ranked in the first position by the h-index in the latest ranking of researchers in the Field of Applied Economics in Spain. He has served as Chairman of the Economics and Business Department and Vice Chancellor of Science Policy at the UPF. Currently he is Vice Chancellor for Scientific Strategy at the UPF and member of the Social Sciences Advisory Board of Fundación Ramón Areces. His areas of research include economic development, the effects of ethnic diversity, social conflicts, terrorism, housing markets, and young labor markets. He is the author of seventeen books and over one hundred and thirty articles in scholarly journals. He was awarded the Catalonia Prize of Economics in 2017.
