Any type of injury to the brain, either dysgenetic, infectious, asphyctic, metabolic or genetically based can produce WS. It has recently been demonstrated the etiological importance of certain specific genes. (symptomatic WS). In a small percentage of cases a cause is not found (cryptogenic or idiopathic WS), which has a better prognosis. The classic treatment, and still the most effective, is the Adrenocorticotropic Hormone or ACTH. In recent years, the development of new antiepileptic drugs has revealed the therapeutic use of some of them in WS, but despite all these advances, much remains to be done in the treatment of WS and its complications. The IVth Meeting of the WSF reviews the advances in the diagnosis and treatment of the syndrome and its complications.

We are proud to enjoy the recognition of health interest by the Community of Madrid and the accreditation by the Continuing Education of Health Professions of the Community of Madrid (SNS). Also, the Iberoamerican Society of Scientific Information (SIIC) has recognized the Meeting as being of scientific interest for all the Iberoamerican health professionals.
