The following monograph “Emerging infectious diseases: the new pandemic of the 21st century”, compiles the discussions and opinions of the experts who attended the 5th edition of the “Lecture Series and Debates on Science”, which was jointly organised by the Nature Publishing Group Iberoamerica (NPGI). The primary subjects debated during the four previous editions included autoimmune diseases, personalised health care, the nanotechnology revolution and genetic testing. Based on the views of the Scientific Advisory Board and NPG, these subjects were extensively addressed because of their academic and cutting-edge nature and because they are current topics of interest.
