The American philosopher Michael Sandel, who completed an eight-month stay in Madrid in December 2021, returned to Harvard having verified that “public universities in Spain are at the top”. This was stated at the colloquium organized by the Ramón Areces Foundation, in which he analyzed his latest work, ‘The Tyranny of Merit.' "Higher education in general in the United States has lost sight of its true objective and mission,” Sandel lamented. “This has to do with meritocratic competition and how they are obsessed with rankings,” he added.
Michael Sandel exchanged their impressions with the economist José García Montalvo, professor of the department of Economics and Business, Pompeu Fabra University; the rector of the Autonomous University of Madrid, Amaya Mendikoetxea; and with the professor of Public International Law, European Community Law and International Relations of the Universidad San Pablo CEU, José María Beneyto.
