ENRIQUE BARÓN, former President of the European Parliament, considers that the European Union is an open constituent process between States and peoples of Europe that is increasingly narrowing, and has European citizenship and the single currency as fundamental pillars.
Barón inaugurated the series of conferences The Future of European Economic Governance: economic, legal, social and political aspects, and stated that the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the euro as a currency is "a good moment to take stock".

The main challenges posed by Horizon 2030 were discussed at an Expert Seminar called by Professors José Luis García Delgado, José Antonio Alonso and Fernando Becker. The seminar, whose main conclusions can be seen at this link, was organized in three sessions of three lectures each. The first focused on "Global challenges"; the second, on “the European social model”, and the third on “Spain: institutional framework”.
All the experts agree in pointing out that one of the great challenges of Europe is the exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union. At the LSE Masterclass Europe at the Crossroads? Brexit, populism and democracy, were analyzed the factors that have fueled the rise of the populist and the antiestablishment movements, and the Eurosceptic voting trend across Europe. In particular, the implications for democracy of the emergence of populist options and the future of the European Union were considered.
