Juicios sobre la materialidad de las auditorías: Perspectivas de los reguladores
Recent data obtained from the PCAOB (Public Company Accounting Oversight Board) indicate that materiality in audits is not set by applying simple rules (e.g. 5% of pre-tax profit), but is associated with different figures of results, sales and assets, depending on the size and performance of the audit clients. High materiality is associated with fewer audit hours and audit fees, but also with fewer adjustments suggested by auditors and subsequently with a higher probability of material misstatements in the financial statements. Prof. Schipper will discuss the US evidence on value judgments in relation to materiality, and their consequences.
