One of the problems that approaching the city as an object of study is that it has always been addressed from limited perspectives and, of course, little friends of dialogue with each other.  Too much fascination with numbers and little attention to qualitative. Therefore, in this issue of the Revista de Occidente, sponsored by the Fundación Ramón Areces, has been committed to bringing together specialists to discuss about cities, from eras and from different perspectives, addressing issues that are related to each other and that are questioned about similar problems. In the different articles, a large part of the logics that allow us to understand the operation of a city are present: the logic of the politician, Joan Clos, former mayor of Barcelona, ​​is added to the logic of the architect, in this case Paco Somoza; along with that of the historian Jesús Fuentes and the problems of the current Toledo; and that of the sociologist Juan Menor and the global city; to end with the logic of digitalization that seems to transform everything, in this case by the hand of one of the greatest Spanish experts on the subject, Miguel Ángel G. San Román. Cities are networks endowed with thousands of nodes impossible to understand if we do not look at them at the right distance.
