Spanish, apart from being one of the planet´s four main languages, is an international language, because it is the official language of at least twenty sovereign nations. This book contains the minutes of a series of lectures that was organized in cooperation with the Royal Spanish Academy and drew together half a dozen speakers from academies of the Spanish language, half from Spain and half from America and the Philippines.
José G. Moreno de Alba analyzed Mexicans´awareness and attitudes in connection with the prestige and correctness of the Spanish language; Spanish since the sixteenth century was the topic elaborated on by Emilio Alarcos; Antonio M. Molina addressed the slow death of Spanish in the Philippines; Humberto López Morales, Spanish in America today; and lastly Gregorio Salvador lectured on adherence to the Spanish-language norm.
