Mathematics has a notable weight in the economy and research in Spain, and a multiplier effect on productivity and the optimization of processes, but there is a wide margin for improvement when compared to other advanced countries. "Without Mathematics there is no science and without science there is no future", assured the second vice-president of the RSME, David Martín de Diego, moderator of this conference.
Expanding graphs have proven to be a fruitful abstraction with new applications. These are both computing and mathematics applications. In the past, deep insights into pure mathematics were already applied to construct expanding graphs. Nowadays, expanding graphs are used to solve problems in Pure Mathematics.
Speaker: Harald Andrés Helfgott. Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Göttingen, Germany, and Research Director, at CNRS, Paris, France.
In this lecture series some of the most important mathematicians in the world reflected on the future challenges of Mathematics, both in its purest aspects, and in its many applications to other sciences. The series was aimed at young researchers who are starting their research careers and at general public with an interest in Mathematics. Two colloquiums were held in 2021. The first conversation had Alessio Figalli, Fields Medal 2018, and Xavier Cabré, Research Professor at ICREA - UPC, as protagonists. Efin Zelmanov, Fields Medal in 1994, and Consuelo Martínez López, Algebra Professor at the University of Oviedo, took part in the second conversation.
