In this presentation we will become aware of what is going on in Mexico since 2012, when the information provided by the CONEVAL (which is responsible for measuring poverty in Mexico and evaluates social policy) is aligned with the incentives of policy makers.
The poverty indices created by CONEVAL is multidimensional (access to education, health, social security, decent housing etc.) and is not housed within the government. This measurement began in 2009. In Mexico, as ever, has seen targeted this coordination towards social objectives.
As the measurement is multidimensional, coordination frequently occurs between the Ministries of Social Development, Education, Health, Labour, Finance, Economy and Agriculture, and even the Central Bank, as they all have specific targets for poverty reduction.
A key evaluation for CONEVAL itself is to see in the measurements from 2015 and 2016 if the data and evaluations of CONEVAL are translating into poverty reduction. The results already had an effect in extreme poverty looking at 2012 and 2014.
