The thesis explores the intersection between economics and crime through two separate articles, focusing on human trafficking for prostitution and the relationship between pornography and sexual abuse. On the one hand, the aim of the first article is to estimate the number of sex workers who are susceptible to being trafficked and the marginal effect of each prostitution consumer on trafficking. The data will be obtained by webscraping a blog called Spalumi, where consumers exchange information about sex workers. As an exogenous variation for the calculation of the marginal effects, I will use a raid carried out in October that would function as a supply shock. On the other hand, the aim of the second article is to estimate the causal effect of pornography consumption on sexual abuse by taking advantage of the privacy policy change in X (formerly Twitter) as an exogenous variation.
