The change in the US administration in January 2021, accompanied by a manifesto to rejoin the 2015 Paris Agreement at COP 21, has revitalized the global climate change agenda, which aims to limit global warming to a maximum of 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2100 and achieve a carbon neutral economy by 2050. However, significant challenges remain for an inclusive, cohesive, and effective global policy.
According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), climate finance is that local, national, or transnational financing, from public, private and alternative sources, that seeks to support mitigation and adaptation actions to climate change. Climate finance is growing rapidly around the world. The green bonds issued reach more than 2 trillion dollars, with China being by far the largest issuer. Will this relatively new field of finance have a real impact on climate change?
Coastal areas are the result of the interaction of terrestrial, marine and atmospheric processes. This colloquium addressed the challenges and opportunities posed by coastal management. Issues such as the necessary measures to manage the ecological connections between land and sea, the impacts that our actions in the territory have on coastal areas, the effects of climate change on them, or the actions that citizens can undertake to contribute to the conservation of coastal ecosystems were discussed.
The United Nations global goals to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all are considered in the sustainable development agenda (SDG). This session addressed three of the 17 SDGs that are structured into five development axes from which they were selected for the debate: people, prosperity, and the planet. From among these three axes, the speakers addressed the themes of aging, work, and the challenge of climate change. The essential purpose was to present and reflect on the contributions made from psychology to the SDGs in these three areas.
